I am writing this review because I searched the internet for a review of the Songbird Ultra Hearing Aid.  I could not find anything useful so now that I have my very own, I am providing my fellow hearing challenged friends with my personal views.

I have had tinnitus in both ears since October 2008.  At about the same time I noticed more significant hearing problems.  Since then my tinnitus has gotten a little better or maybe I am just used to it.  My hearing on the other hand seems to still be an issue.

I saw a hearing doctor and was tested.  He told me there was not much I could do about the ringing.  He suggested a hearing aid may help, but I was not about to shell out a few thousand dollars.

In any case, I did order a couple cheap sound amplifier hearing aids on ebay for about $25.  I have to admit for $25, they were not too bad especially if all you needed them for was to watch TV or something.  I am not sure if they are bad for your hearing.  They are a little bulky but not too bad.  I got the behind the ear (BTE) type.

However, I did not think the cheap hearing aids were adequate for day to day use especially at work.  So I searched the internet for hearing aids and came upon Songbird.

Songbird Hearing seems to mainly promote its disposable flexfit hearing aid which costs about $80.  It has some reviews online with mixed reviews.  Generally, it seems like a decent product.

Recently, I think, Songbird Hearing began to offer the Songbird Ultra which is a non-disposable hearing aid for about $270 or so.  Since I did not want to buy a disposable hearing aid, I searched and searched for a review of the Ultra.  I found nothing useful.

Since there is a 30 day return policy, and I was getting tired of wasting hours searching on the web, I just sucked it up and ordered two Songbird Ultra hearing aids.  I still have money in my spending account which expires soom so I needed to spend the money anyways.  My insurance does not cover hearing aids so buying the expensive hearing aids was not an option.

Okay so I ordered them on Saturday and I received them today Thursday.

They are very easy to put together and come with extra batteries which is nice.  They are much smaller than the cheap ones I bought above and the tube from the hearing aid is much thinner.

The volume is adjusted using a small knob which is not the greatest but works.  It also has three boost levels which are actived with a convenient push button.  Each hearing aid comes with a case, extra batteries, and a cleaning kit.

The ear piece is pretty comfortable.  It is far better than the cheap hearing aids.  My ears do not feel plugged at all.

I wore one for a couple hours and now I have both on.  I bought two because I have hearing loss in both ears, I had money to spend and also I read it can make a difference.  When I had only one on I seemed to still have trouble hearing someone.  It may have been because I was not used to the Ultra yet or the volume was too low.

So far I am excited with my purchase.  The Songbird Hearing Ultra's are small, lightweight and pretty comfortable.  I do not feel too self conscious wearing them.  I kind of feel like a body guard or something.

I will keep you updated on how they work out.
